Scan Configuration

This section helps you define the scan workload that you want to evaluate. Based on the information entered in this section, the Scanner Capacity Calculator estimates the scanner capacity, scanner count, and scan completion requirements for the selected scan type.

Choose the scan type that matches the type of scan you plan to run.

  • VM - Host-based vulnerability scan. Uses target IP count. Average round time: ~7.5 minutes.

  • PC - Policy compliance scan. Uses target IP count. Higher scan cost per slice than VM. Average round time: ~7.5 minutes.

  • PCI -PCI compliance scan. Uses target IP count. Same slice cost as VM but significantly longer per-burst time (~60–120 minutes vs. 5–10 minutes for VM/PC).

  • MAP - Discovery or network mapping scan. Uses job count instead of IPs. Average time: ~25 minutes per job.

  • WAS - Web application scan. Uses job count. Average time: ~10 minutes per job.

VM

Alive IPs to Scan in Parallel

Specify the total number of alive target IPs to scan. Obtain this value from a MAP scan or network ping sweep.

VM, PC, PCI

3,000

Number of Scan Jobs

Specify the total number of scan jobs. A scan job can represent a target subnet, domain, or web application.

MAP, WAS

10

Concurrent Scans and Maps

Specify the maximum number of VM, PC, or MAP scan jobs that can run simultaneously across all scanners. This is a back-office setting configured in your Qualys subscription. Since each scanner runs one slice per job, this value also limits the number of slices a scanner can process in parallel.

VM, PC, PCI, MAP

100

Concurrent WAS Scans

Specify the maximum number of WAS scan jobs that can run simultaneously across all scanners. This is a back-office setting configured in your Qualys subscription.

Desired Scan Duration

Specify the required time to complete the scan. Select the unit of time (hours or minutes) using the toggle option. This enables the Scan Time Planner.
