By default, WAS uses the DNS for the web application URL to crawl the web application and perform scanning. If you select a DNS override record, the mappings in your record are used instead.
There are a few reasons you might want to do this. For example, your web application does not have a DNS entry since it's in a non-production environment. Or the web application may have a different IP address in a non-production environment (e.g. development or QA) than in production.
You can assign one default DNS override record to a web application. When assigned, all the mappings of the selected records are used by default, each time a scan is launched on that web application.
The DNS Override tab under Configuration manages all the DNS Override records to which you have access.
From the DNS Override tab, you can:
A) Create a DNS override record by using the New DNS Override Record button. For details, see
B) Search for DNS override records using QQL (Qualys Query Language) queries. For details, see .
C) Use filters in the left pane to search for DNS override records by quick filters and tags added to the DNS override records.
D) Use Quick Actions to perform the following actions on an individual DNS override record:
- Add Comment DNS Override Record
E) Use the Actions menu to take the following actions on multiple DNS override records:

F) Use the Search Actions menu to view the recent searches, save search queries added in the search box and manage saved searches.
