Importing Profile from Local Machine

FIM enables you to easily import profiles from your computer, whether individually or in bulk using a CSV file. This functionality not only saves time but also enhances the organization of your data.

You can seamlessly transfer profiles between user accounts by exporting them as a CSV file from the source account. Once you export the CSV file, you can easily import it into the target account, ensuring a smooth transition of user data. This process also allows you to modify the profiles directly within the CSV file before importing, allowing you to customize any information needed for the new account.

Limitations of Importing Profiles

The following limitations are applicable while importing profiles:

  • Importing the same profile twice without changes:

When a profile is imported for the first time, the system creates a new profile using the profile name and rule names specified in the CSV file. During this process, the system generates new Rule IDs for the rules defined in the CSV. Everything works fine in this first import, as the profile and rules are created successfully based on the data provided.

However, the import fails if you attempt to import the same CSV file again without making any changes. This is because the CSV still contains the old Rule IDs from the first import. During the second import, the system tries to match or create profiles using these old Rule IDs. Since the profiles already exist in the system with new Rule IDs generated during the first import, a conflict arises. The system encounters an error because it cannot update or create a profile where the profile name already exists but is tied to different Rule IDs.

  • Importing CSV with deleted Profiles/Rules:

If you export a profile and then manually delete some rules or rows from the profile in the system, re-importing the same profile will not delete the profiles/rules you removed earlier. The system only supports the addition or updating of profiles/rules. This means that any profile/rules deleted from the CSV will remain unaffected by the import process.

Import a profile

To import a profile, follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to the Configuration > Profiles tab.
  2. Click Create > Import Profile.

    The file explorer opens.

  3. Locate the CSV file containing FIM Profiles and click Open.

The Import Profile window is displayed.

  4. If you want to update an existing profile, select the Update Existing Profile checkbox.

When you import a profile with the same name as an existing profile in the system and do not select the Update Existing Profile checkbox, an error message is displayed, and the existing profile remains unchanged.
If you select the Update Existing Profile checkbox, the matching profiles are updated and set to Inactive status. You must activate them manually afterward.

Removing a Profile/Rule information from the CSV file during the import process does not delete the corresponding Profile/Rule from the system. The system retains records of previously created profiles.

  5. Click Import to start importing.

All the imported profiles are Inactive. To activate them, refer to Activate and Deactivate a Profile.
