Exception Approval
Once the exception is requested, the designated approvers or approver group members can approve or reject the exception based on the business risks involved and the reason for the exception. The following sections present the workflow for exception approval and rejection.
The exception request could include three or four stages of approvers and can be approved or rejected by any of the assigned group members.
This workflow is available only for the approver groups.
Approval Workflow
Perform the following steps to approve the exception request:
- Log on to the application and go to Qualys VMDR.
- Click Exceptions > Pending My Approval.
The right pane displays the exceptions requested for approval. -
Click the State column.

Click the icon beside the Approving field | Open Record.
The incident record opens. -
Add dates and exception recommendations in the Exception tab in the incident record, and click Update.
You are back on the approval record. -
Click Approve.
Rejection Workflow
Perform the following steps to reject the exception request:
- Log on to the application and go to Qualys VMDR.
- Click Exceptions | Pending My Approval.
- The right pane displays the exceptions requested for approval.
- Click the State column.

Click the icon beside the Approving field > Open Record.

The incident record opens. In the incident record, add a reason for exception rejection in the Comments field and click Reject.
A message is displayed that confirms the exception request is rejected.
