What is Qualys Gateway Service?
QGS is a Qualys-developed packaged virtual appliance that provides proxy and caching services for Qualys Cloud Agent deployments in environments requiring proxy connectivity to reach Qualys Cloud Platforms. QGS supports any Cloud Agent version with HTTP/HTTPS proxy support (all agents since 2016) and can be deployed across a wide range of cloud and on-premises virtualization platforms, including AWS, Azure, GCP, OCI, VMware, KVM, Hyper-V, OpenStack, Nutanix, Red Hat OpenShift, Proxmox, and Alibaba Cloud.
QGS is managed through the QGS module user interface on the Qualys platform, from which you can create, register, monitor, and manage virtual appliance deployments. Beyond proxy services for Cloud Agents, QGS also provides proxy services for Qualys Scanner and Qualys Network Passive Sensor, as well as a caching service for Cloud Agent deployments, including an optional Patch Mode that enables patch caching for connected agents. Connection security is built in: the QGS proxy only routes connections to the Qualys platform where it is registered, making it impossible to use QGS to proxy traffic to any other destination.

Proxy & Caching Services
Provides explicit forward proxy and caching services for Cloud Agent deployments, along with proxy support for Qualys Scanner and Qualys Network Passive Sensor.
Learn More →Multi-Platform Deployment
Deploy QGS on AWS, Azure, GCP, OCI, Hyper-V, OpenStack, Nutanix, Red Hat OpenShift, Proxmox, and Alibaba Cloud using the appropriate virtual machine image format for your environment.
Learn More →Patch Mode Caching
Enable Patch Mode to cache patches for connected Cloud Agents by attaching a secondary virtual hard disk of 150 GB or more to the QGS appliance, reducing bandwidth requirements.
Learn More →Secure Proxy Connections
Connection security is enforced by design: QGS only proxies connections to the Qualys platform where it is registered, with SSL/TLS pass-through bypass and support for allowed domain filtering.
Learn More →Platform-Managed Appliance
Download, register, monitor, and manage QGS virtual appliance deployments directly from the QGS module in the Qualys platform UI, with support for personalization codes and diagnostic mode.
Learn More →High Availability Support
QGS can be deployed in a High-Availability failover configuration using external third-party load balancers, and supports upstream proxy server connectivity including domain-based filtering.
