Network Passive Sensor (NPS) Help

Automatically detect and profile all network-connected systems, eliminating blind spots across your IT environment.

What is NPS

Network Passive Sensor (NPS) is a passive monitoring solution that continuously observes network traffic to discover and profile assets without actively scanning them.

NPS listens to mirrored network traffic (via SPAN, TAP, or similar methods) and extracts attributes such as IP address, MAC address, hostname, domain, and other protocols as well as communication patterns. This information is then sent to the Qualys Enterprise TruRiskâ„¢ Platform, where it is correlated with existing asset data to provide a unified and continuously updated asset inventory.

Because NPS does not inject any packets into the network, it ensures zero impact on network performance, making it ideal for IT and OT environments.

NPS Journey

1

Network Passive Sensor Deployment

Deploy a physical or virtual sensor that monitors mirrored network traffic.
2

Asset Discovery

NPS extracts asset data, such as IP, MAC, hostname, domain, and protocol, from traffic.
3

Asset Inventory

NPS sends asset data to CSAM/GAV.
