Deploying Qualys Scanner Appliance on Nutanix

This document describes how to deploy the Qualys Virtual Scanner Appliance on the Nutanix Platform. Once deployed, the scanner functions as a Standard Virtual Scanner. For more details, refer to Qualys Cloud Platform.

Manage Instances

While managing the instance, you are not allowed to do the following actions:

Instance Snapshots/Cloning Not Allowed

Using a snapshot or clone of a virtual scanner instance to create a new instance is strictly prohibited. The new instance does not function as a scanner, and all configuration settings and platform registration information is lost. This could also lead to scan failures and errors for the original scanner.

Moving/Exporting Instance Not Allowed

Moving or exporting a registered scanner instance from a virtualization platform (Hyper-V, VMWare, Xen Server) in any file format to the Nutanix cloud platform is strictly prohibited. This can break scanner functionality and permanently lose all its settings.

Limitations

The following features are not supported in all cloud (private and public) platforms:

WAN/Split network SETTINGS - 'WAN Interface' option for split network settings is not supported. Only LAN/single network settings from Cloud UI, used for both scanning and connecting to Qualys servers, are supported
NATIVE VLAN - 'VLAN on LAN' option for configuring Native VLAN is not supported
STATIC VLAN (IPV4 AND IPV6) - 'VLANs' option for configuring static VLANs is not supported
STATIC ROUTES (IPV4 AND IPV6) - Option to configure 'Static Routes' is not supported
IPV6 ON LAN - Option to configure 'IPv6 on LAN' is not supported

Prerequisites

Must have an active Qualys subscription. If you do not have an active Qualys subscription, contact Qualys Support or sign up on the Qualys website.
Must have a Scanner personalization code (14 digits) obtained from Qualys account.
Must have proper connectivity between Qualys Virtual Scanner Appliance VM and Qualys Cloud Platform over HTTPS port 443.

Get Started

The Nutanix platform supports the .vmdk and .qcow2 image file formats. Qualys Scanner Appliance can be deployed using either of these two image file formats.
